     After years of development Star Trek is almost here.  Software developers trying to push stylus type EMRs systems are wasting their time.  Voice is here to stay and it is growing in leaps.

     Nuance, previously Scansoft, developers of the Dragon speech engine have just purchased Dictaphone and cornered most of the medical market.  Why not , the product is now extremely user friendly and highly acute.  One word commands produce sentences, paragraphs or whole documents  and its medical vocabulary is the largest in the industry.

     The release of Dragon 9 the software is 30% more efficient and is now enterprise ready.  It can dictate into any rich text field, meaning any PPM  or EMR software can now incorporate voice recognition easily.

      Utilizing , laptops, tablets, digital recorders, blue tooth head sets or conventional microphones, this software  is outstanding.

     VOS:\ is currently developing a beta system that only require the doctor to walk in an examination room and identify himself.  He can then toggle the microphone off and on by voice as he needs to dictate or chat  with his patient.

      “Computer, tea, Earl  Grey, tepid please!”  We may not have the replicator, but we do have the voice engine to take us into the next century.
