Text Box: an Orex/Kodak ACL laser reader that produces anywhere from 21-65 cassettes per. hr. (depending on model) and in a dual/Rais2 configuration 82 per hr. ,with little chance of work stoppage, due to redundant design. The cart is self contained with an acquire computer, battery UPS, articulating 19” LCD monitor and cassette storage. It has a small foot print, 23”deep by 31”wide and wheels effortlessly on 5” ball bearing casters. The VOS:\DR unit shown above and to the right has CCD receiver up to 16 mega pixels, 64kw high frequency compact generator , high capacity X-ray tube and automatic exposure control. Images are viewed with in ten seconds of exposure, as opposed to 40-52 seconds for CR. Our unit has fully motorized movement, auto settings for 40 and 72 inch SID, auto position for table exposure, light field w/laser positioning and all DICOM compliant. Base models now start in the $135K range plus accessories. Text Box: X-ray is being reborn with digital tools that do much more than film. Digital X-ray comes in two flavors, CR which utilizes existing hardware, phosphor cassettes, and a laser reader that transmits to an acquire computer or DR that requires a new X-ray unit with grid or camera receiver pushing images almost instantaneously to a computer. Once the images are received and validated they are stored in a PACs (picture archiving software) sever and view almost anywhere at any time. Although both systems are faster than film and eliminate dark rooms and filing, the CR readers are a third of the price! Which produces better images? CR had a small advantage, however both technologies are improving at a rapid pace and now produce excellent quality.
